SCOPE

"Music is the science of wisdom, and it is a blessing to those who know and those who do not know." said İbrahim Hakkı Hz.

Since the contribution of Sufi music to the spiritual education of human beings was well known by Sufis, one of the most important tools used in the process of spiritual education in tekkes was music. The first Sufi music started with the compositions made for Ahmad Yassawî's hikmet and the speeches of Anatolian saints have been composed and recited by the lovers of the truth until today.

The effect of the speeches of the awliya on the soul through melodies is much more effective than reading the same words from a book or hearing them as a speech. These speeches, each of which is a pearl of magic words, become more effective the more they are repeated.  In time, one's understanding and comprehension increases.

Anyone who loves music, who wants to get to know our ancient culture in terms of literature, Sufism and music and who wants to be at least a good listener can participate in this programme. In the programme, samples of the hymns of Sufi poets such as Yûnus Emre, Niyâzî-i Mısrî, Eşrefoğlu Rûmî, Aziz Mahmud Hüdâyî, Alvarlı Efe, Ken'ân Rifâî, whose poems are composed the most, will be performed.  "Let me call you Mevlâm with mountains and stones", "Love has been fortunate for us from eternity", "Hak will bring good out of evil", "O âşık-ı dildâde", "Let's take destur to the demine of soldiers" and many more...

We hope that those who are interested in Sufism, but have not had the opportunity to get acquainted with this beautiful, ancient music before, will be able to get acquainted with this programme.

Course Procedure: Our lessons will be accompanied by instruments. These may be ney, oud, classical kemençe, kānun, tanbur, kudüm, bendir. Our studies will be done with the meşk method. Before the beginning of the lesson, the lyrics of the new pieces to be passed will be distributed and will be repeated. Different pieces will be added every week to enrich the repertoire. It is not necessary to know sheet music for participation in the lessons. It is enough to have an ear for music.
