COURSES

Introduction to Sufi Thought Osman Nuri Kucuk, Prof. Dr.

16 hours

Through the lives and teachings of enlightened ones such as Rumi, Yunus Emre, Haci Bektas-i Veli, and Ibn Arabi The class considers the place of Sufism among Islamic studies, the fundamentals of its methodology shaped throughout the centuries and its effects on Islamic thought and practice, Sufism’s conceptualization about humans and the spiritual maturation that is foreseen for the human in the Allah-universe-human relationship. The connections of these teachings to our day, Sufism’s solutions to humans’ ‘search for meaning’ and the main religious/Sufi concepts that shape the effect of these solutions on humans’ individual and social life are examined.


Introduction to Sufi History Muhammed Bedirhan, Dr.

In this class where the roots of Sufism, its appearance as a discipline, its institutionalization and representation within history throughout different geographies will be considered, there will also be opportunities to touch on important Sufi figures.


Sufism Through Text Cemalnur Sargut, Arzu Eylul Yalcinkaya, Ogr. Yard.

In the scope of this class, by conducting readings of masterpieces of Sufism, the skill for reading and commenting on these works will be developed.


Introduction to Turkish Sufi Literature Emine Yeniterzi, Prof. Dr.

In this class, the first representatives of Turkish Sufi literature in Central Asia and Anatolia, Ahmed-i Yesevi, Rumi, and Yunus Emre and their suggestions on the value and consciousness of being a human/servant, the grace of beautiful conduct, and having a rich inner world will be considered through sphere of Sufism and literature; methods for the determination, analysis, and composition of these teachings will be taught.


The Relationship of Sufism with other Disciplines Nevzat Tarhan, Prof. Dr., Ismail Taspinar, Prof. Dr., Sinan Canan, Prof. Dr.

In the context of classes where Sufism and other disciplines will be considered altogether, participants will have the opportunity to discover Sufism’s ever-present relations with all areas of life. The seminars for this course will be given by guest experts over four weeks, on the topics of psychological, behavioral sciences, and art.


Cultural Trip Kerim Exclusive, Kerim Foundation

This trip will be held on a Saturday for the weekday groups, and on Sunday for the weekend groups.
